The classic hike lasts about 2.00 h and consists of crossing gorges by dinghy, and the descent of a part of the Pollina river (about 500 meters) until the arrival of the Small Gorges, where you can bathe, and return back to the starting point. Gorges of Tiberio, a geo park site recognized by UNESCO, are located along the river Pollina inside the Madonie Park in the territory of San Mauro Castelverde. Gorges, about 400 meters long and as high as up to 50 meters, are made up of calcareous rocks formed in the upper Triassic. The visit to the Gorges of Tiberius is a trip back in time, in a wild and unknown place accessible to all, but only recommended to those who truly love nature, silence and a unique sensory experience to discover a primordial world dating back some 200 million years ago still fully preserved today, as very few other places in the world. Visiting the Gorges means discovering the fossils of gastropods, numerous nests of birds even a few centimeters from the water, the numerous caves once inhabited by bandits and legends related to them and to the place, including the famous Miricu, from Truatura e del Mostro, the play of light that is created between the water and the walls thanks to the contrast between external winds and hot and cool inside. If you are lucky, you can even the see a golden eagle in flight. Just 25 km from Cefalu. Coming from Palermo or Messina: exit A 20 Castelbuono (Pa) or Tusa (Me), follow directions for Pollina Finale in both cases; After this village (coming from Castelbuono) or before the village (coming from Tusa) take the SP 52 to San Mauro Castelverde (Pa), 8 km (Borrello junction) turn right and continue on the SP 60 to 1 , 5 km to the junction Tiberius, continue on the right along the road (first along a forestry) for about 1 km until the start of the path (along a staircase of 400 steps)leading directly to the Gorges.
